The head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Taxation and Customs Policy Danilo Hetmanцев stated that the level of poverty in Ukraine has increased almost twice. According to him, the key reason is the full-scale war.

Hetmanцев on the level of poverty in Ukraine

Hetmanцев noted that the level of poverty in Ukraine has almost doubled since the beginning of the full-scale war.

'Indeed, the level of poverty in Ukraine has increased, and it has increased significantly. According to the World Bank, before the war it was 20%, and today it is 37%, it has almost doubled'

At the same Time, he emphasized that this significant indicator was provoked by the war. According to him, this can be explained by the fact that all economic processes taking place in the country are happening with a certain negative sign, as influenced by the war.

At the same time, Hetmanцев predicts that the end of hostilities will bring about a reverse trend. However, in the opinion of the MP, it is not worth simply waiting for peace — it is necessary to start discussing the minimum living wage.

'There are so-called peace dividends in every country. This is confirmed by economic history when peace itself brings about wealth and poverty decreases. We can actually see this even in our own statistics, when in 2014 poverty increased. And after 2014, it decreased until 2022'

Earlier, Hetmanцев responded whether the state can currently ensure the minimum living wage for Ukrainians.

We also wrote about whether there is a middle class in Ukraine and who can belong to it.

During the war in Ukraine, the level of poverty has increased almost twice, which is an extremely important problem for the country. Hetmanцев calls for not only waiting for the end of the conflict but also starting to discuss the minimum living wage right now.
