In Lviv, a 20-year-old boy underwent heart transplantation twice.


In Lviv, it was successfully possible to perform two heart transplants in one patient within just three days. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Health on Telegram.
Heart Disease
The young man had a congenital heart defect, diagnosed after a viral cold. He had dilated cardiomyopathy, which disrupts the heart's function, leading to a loss of its elasticity and ability to pump blood.
This situation required a heart transplant, as well as addressing arrhythmia. The boy was initially fitted with a cardioverter-defibrillator, but after some Time it stopped working effectively.
Heart Transplantation
After the first heart transplant was unsuccessful due to issues with the donor organ, the patient was connected to an ECMO machine and placed on the waiting list for a new heart with the first status of urgency. A day after being placed on the waiting list, a second successful heart transplant took place.
Now, three weeks after the operation, the patient's condition is stabilizing, he feels well, although he experiences some weakness. The Ministry of Health expressed gratitude to the donor families and medical staff for saving the patient's life.
In Lviv, it was the first time in a short period that two heart transplants were successfully performed on one patient. Medical professionals made maximum efforts to save the life of a patient with a severe heart defect, and now they are observing positive results. This story is an example of the high professionalism of doctors and the generosity of donor families who were able to help a person in a difficult moment.
