Romania wants to buy the port near Odesa — for what purpose.

The Romanian government is preparing to purchase the international port of Giurgiulești from the private company Danube Logistics SRL. Additionally, an investment of more than 24 million euros is planned for the modernization of this port, which is one of the most important transport hubs in the region. The country's government announced these plans, as reported by the publication 'Europa Liberă Moldova.'
Sale of the port
The Investment Expertise Council has officially approved the intention to purchase 100% of the shares of Danube Logistics SRL by the decision of the 'Administration of Maritime Ports' of Romania. This company holds the rights to manage the International Free Port of Giurgiulești, located at the border with the Odesa region.
In addition to the port purchase, an investment of over 24 million euros is planned for the development of the port's infrastructure, including the construction of terminals, improvement of railways, and expansion of warehouses. The modernization will also cover digitalization and ecological transition.
